CALMERIC project to boost innovation

The Hub News Team | 14.10.19

A new £1.8million project to help companies carry out research and innovation in advanced engineering materials has been launched.

Calmeric-Logo---CMYK-2-487x184The Composites & Additive Layer Materials Engineering Research & Innovation Centre - or CALMERIC - will help small and medium-sized businesses to carry out research and innovation projects and develop high-performance components.

Businesses across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin are being urged to apply for support from the centre, run by the University of Wolverhampton's School of Engineering and part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The project - based at the Telford Innovation Campus - is now open to support SMEs across Shropshire which are independently owned, have fewer than 250 employees and turnover of less than 50m Euros a year.

It can offer advanced technical support, engineering analysis and design, prototyping, materials development and testing, additive layer manufacturing and access to academic specialists.

CALMERIC is targeted towards businesses operating in sectors such as medical technology, transport technology, wind energy supply chains, applied materials and environmental technologies.

Research and innovation projects supported by the CALMERIC project will be delivered by a team of existing academic specialists and new researchers employed through the project to work on research collaborations with SMEs.

It works in collaboration with companies that don't presently have full in-house capability to develop advanced components manufactured using composite or additive layer technologies. Research collaborations typically involve high level design and engineering analysis, prototyping, testing and material or microstructure analysis.

Companies interested in signing up should contact the CALMERIC project office at Telford on 01902 323298 or email
