A new grants programme has been launched to help businesses in Telford & Wrekin which want to equip their staff with the latest skills.
The Upskilling Grant Fund will meet up to 90 per cent of the cost of training and skills courses with grants from £1,000 – £3,000.
The fund – targeted at SMEs across the borough – requires 10 per cent match funding from the employer and can help fund training for a maximum of five employees per employer.
The fund aims to:
- Support upskilling
- Support worker retention
- Enable in work progression
A spokesperson said: “It will do this by offering match funded grants of up to £3,000 for eligible level 4 and above training or its equivalent, or by supporting industry specific training where it will lead to in-work progression.
“The fund will not support mandatory / legislative required training or support training where it is available through other funded provision.”
The fund is open to businesses from B2B and B2C categories and all training must be completed by 28th February 2025.
All businesses will be required to go through a two-stage application process:
- Stage 1: Expression of interest submission. If approved you will be progressed to the next stage.
- Stage 2: The full application form will be released.
The spokesperson added: “All applications will be assessed against pre-defined criteria, we anticipate high volumes and with a limited amount of funds we will not be able to support all applications that are submitted. Successful and early submission of a full application does not guarantee funding.
“The onus is on the applicant to complete the application correctly, provide the necessary information and demonstrate that it meets the requirements of the fund. There will be no appeals process and the ability to provide comprehensive feedback will be limited.”
