The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) launched the Net Zero Hydrogen Fund (NZHF) in April 2022 with the aim to provide capital expenditure (CAPEX) of £90million and development expenditure (DEVEX) of £90million to support the commercial deployment of new low carbon hydrogen production projects during the 2020s.

Strand 1 – Development Expenditure (DEVEX) competition – closes at 11.00am on 22 June 2022

Strand 2 – Capital expenditure (CAPEX) competition – closes at 11.00am on 6 July 2022

To help understand the fund further and inform application decisions:

  • The FAQ documents for Strands 1 and 2 are now live on the NZHF Competition page.
  • Three Hydrogen Emissions Calculator training videos are now available on the UK Low Carbon Hydrogen standard emissions reporting page. A further 3 will be added soon so anyone interested in the following should keep an eye on the page for updates in early June: Biomass gasification with CCS example project; Municipal solid waste (MSW) gasification with CCS example project; Biomethane reformation with CCS example project
  • Innovate UK and Innovate UK KTN will be hosting two competition clinics in support of the NZHF on behalf of BEIS.

The Strand 1 clinic will be on the 13th June at 11:00 with Strand 2 on the 20th June at 14:00. These are open forums to allow you to ask questions around the scope, eligibility and how to apply. You can register for the clinics here.

Please note the competition clinics are not briefing events, you can find a recording of the briefing event and the accompanying slides here.
