The Government is providing up to £210m worth of voucher funding as immediate help for people experiencing slow broadband speeds in rural areas.

Vouchers worth up to £3,500 for businesses and £1,500 for homes to help to cover the costs of installing gigabit broadband to people’s doorsteps.

In addition, Shropshire Council made up to £2m of additional funding available to ‘top-up’ the UK Gigabit Voucher Scheme in partnership with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS). The purpose of this strategic investment is to support those premises currently not included in any Connecting Shropshire contract. Eligible businesses can receive an additional £3,500 bringing the maximum funding per voucher to £7,000.  For homes, the maximum funding per voucher is £4,000, thanks to an extra £2,500 per voucher from Shropshire Council. The scheme is currently suspended whilst BDUK undertakes their review of the proposed procurement strategy for Project Gigabit in Shropshire. Information will be updated on Connecting Shropshire UK Gigabit Voucher Scheme when vouchers become available again.
