Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme
Gigabit vouchers can be used by small businesses and the local communities surrounding them to contribute to the installation cost of a gigabit capable connection.
Businesses can claim up to £2,500 against the cost of connection either individually or as part of a group project. Residents can benefit from the scheme with a voucher worth £500 as part of a group project.
Shropshire Council has made up to £1m of additional funding available to ‘top-up’ the UK Gigabit Voucher Scheme in partnership with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS).
The purpose of this strategic investment is to support those premises currently not included in any Connecting Shropshire contract.
For homes, the maximum funding per voucher is £4,000, thanks to an extra £2,500 per voucher from Shropshire Council. Eligible businesses can receive an additional £3,500 bringing the maximum funding per voucher to £7,000. To view this information in a table, please click here.
To qualify for the Scheme, groups of two or more residents/businesses must be located in a rural area and be unable to get broadband speeds of 100mbps.
You don’t need to apply separately for the top-up funding. If your home or business is eligible, you will receive funding for the Shropshire Top-up at the same time as the UK Gigabit Voucher Scheme funding, through a registered supplier. In all cases, the national UK Gigabit Voucher Scheme funding will be allocated before top-up funding is applied.
The £1m Shropshire Top-up funding will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
