Herefordshire businesses sought for Chamber role

Published: July 17th, 2020

Two Herefordshire businesses are being sought to join Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce‘s Area Council in Herefordshire.

The chamber says it is particularly keen to hear from businesses in the agriculture, construction, retail or tourism sectors but would welcome applications from any interested members.

A spokesman said the area council met six times a year – three meetings on its own and three meetings jointly with its Worcestershire counterpart. The meetings are comprised of fifteen specialists from different sectors across the county who feed back about their respective professions.

The feedback is then used to formulate Chamber policy on the most important economic issues facing the region’s businesses. The area councils form a key part of governance structure and have links to the Chamber board.

Key responsibilities of area council members include:

• To maintain close contact with members at a local level to help provide sector information to the board and chief executive

• To identify key issues that need to be taken up by the Chamber

• To represent both your individual business and your business sector

• To actively support Chamber membership recruitment and retention initiatives

• To be an ambassador for the Chamber

• To ensure that local networking activities are taking place and to support those activities

Candidates wanting to fill the voluntary roles must be a current member of the Chamber, hold a senior position within their business and fit in with the Chamber’s ethos and principles.

Sharon Smith, CEO of the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, said: "To have the opportunity to be a part of the area council is a hugely important task, the successful candidates will be experts in their field and will represent their sector as one of the voices of businesses on behalf of Herefordshire that helps inform vital decisions and support that the Chamber offers the local business community.

"I would urge any interested party to apply for the position and look forward to welcoming them into the already successful Herefordshire Area Council."

If you would like to apply for a position, fill in the self-nomination form which can be downloaded from www.hwchamber.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Nomination-form-Area-Council-2020.docx and send to: [email protected]

The deadline for receiving applications is 5pm on Friday 28 August 2020.
