Grants of up to £80,000 to boost the appearance of Hereford’s independent shops are available in a new scheme to smarten up the city centre.
The Hereford City Centre Shopfront Improvement Scheme aims to make the city more attractive to shoppers by helping independent retailers to enhance the outside of their shops.
The grant can be used to replace the shop front, windows and doors, reinstate traditional shop fronts, sash windows and doors, paint shop fronts and upper floors, replace gutters, downpipes and signage, and to install internal security grilles.
The money is available to existing independent retailers, and tenants or owners can apply.
Shops must have a ground floor and street facing frontage and be within the eligible area of Hereford City Centre, and some types of shop are not eligible.
Up to 80 per cent of eligible costs can be funded, up to a maximum grant value of £80,000. Minimum grant requests must exceed £10,000.
