Midlands Engine: Market visit to NY Now 2017
The Midlands Engine initiative aims to boost economic growth across the Midlands, including through enhanced trade and investment. The Department for International Trade is looking to lead a market visit to this year’s NY Now – an exciting and dynamic event for companies wanting to enter the US market who would like to understand and learn more for future business development.
About NY Now
NY Now takes place twice a year in January/February and August in New York City and is one of the world’s leading tradeshows for contemporary design and sophistication for home, lifestyle, gift and handmade products. The event attracts around 25,000 visitors from across the 50 US states and other international markets, attracting speciality retail buyers, interior design firms, importers, distributors, wholesalers and in-market representatives.
During the visit you can expect to:
• Explore and get an insight into the largest US trade show for Home, Lifestyle & Gift
• Research market trends and competition from both the US and wider global markets
• Learn about the challenges of doing business in the US and how to overcome them
• Understand what you need to do in order to increase your chances of success when exhibiting at NY Now
• Participate in the programme of seminars and workshops to increase market knowledge and awareness
• Hear from US buyers about their own perspective when sourcing new product lines
• Network with buyers, press and exhibitors to establish new contacts

Cost & Grants
A commitment fee of £150 + VAT is applicable for each organisation. Any extra delegates from the same
organisation wishing to participate will be charged an additional £100 + VAT per delegate.
Financial support of £500 is available for those companies in the Midlands Engine area who meet the
required eligibility criteria as detailed on the application form.
Proposed Market Visit Itinerary: as of June 2017
Saturday 19 August: Arrival and check in.
Sunday 20 August:
DAY – This is a free day for you to visit and explore the NY Now exhibition at your leisure, take advantage of the free workshops and seminars on offer, and to conduct your own market research. This is also a perfect opportunity for you to visit the department and retail stores around the city in order for you to understand more about your product placement, retail price, competition, and point of sale merchandising etc.
PM – Informal group drinks/dinner with costs to be covered by individuals, and optional should you wish to make other arrangements.
Monday 21 August
AM – Breakfast networking event and in-market briefing with US buyers.
DAY – Companies to pursue own business objectives.
PM – Networking drinks reception at UK Pavilion for the market visit delegates, UK exhibitors and invited US buyers.
Tuesday 22 August
AM – Retail tour Details to be confirmed.
PM – Delegates to continue with visit or return to UK.
