An inaugural meeting of a Herefordshire Employment Forum to support young people aged 16 to 25 with SEND has been arranged to take place in The Conference Room at the Shell Store, Rotherwas Munitions Factory, Canary Drive, Skylon Park, Hereford, HR2 6SR Contact us (theshellstore.co.uk) on 20th June 2023 2.30pm to 5pm.
The purpose of this forum is to identify ways in which we can locally make a step change in the number of employment opportunities for young people aged 16 to 25 with SEND. Rates of employment for this group of young people remain frustratingly low nationally and although we have pockets of excellent practice in Herefordshire, there is a lot more that we can do.
In particular, we are seeking to use this forum to launch the ‘Internship Works’ initiative which is being supported through a DfE grant. Locally, we are aiming to launch a coherent and well-promoted programme of supported internships in order to significantly increase the number of young people in Herefordshire taking these up and moving into employment. Historically, there has been a lower proportion of the SEND population in Herefordshire accessing supported internships compared to other areas.
