General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

What is data protection and does it apply to sole traders, small businesses and small organisations?

edit
The Information Commissioner’s Office has produced practical advice on how to comply with data protection law and how to improve data protection practices in your business, including how to keep employees’ and customers’ personal information secure and how to get ready for the data protection reforms.
Data Protection law changed on 25 May 2018 with the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The ICO has a package of tools and resources to help businesses, from sole traders to medium sized organisations, comply with their legal obligations under the new law. These resources include:
  • a guide to the GDPR;
  • a number of data protection self help checklists;
  • GDPR FAQ documents for the different sectors; and
  • an advice helpline for small organisations
