Chance to get involved with environmental research

Published: January 17th, 2023

A research project aimed at helping Shropshire’s environment, businesses and communities is looking for companies to get involved.

The Connecting the Clees project is part of a government initiative to ‘test and trial’ different approaches to protecting local natural resources. The aim is to understand and develop opportunities for local businesses and landowners to collaborate to protect and enhance local natural resources and biodiversity.

The project team at Eunomia Research and Consulting is conducting informal interviews of 30-45 minutes with businesses to better understand their social and environmental objectives, their concerns about the local environment and the potential to work with local landowners to address environmental problems.

Adam Noonan, from Eunomia, said: “We’re aiming to speak with about 20 businesses from a variety of sectors with different approaches to the environment. Our initial conversations have been very helpful to improve our understanding and help develop future collaborations. We would like to speak with a wide range of businesses at different stages of their sustainability journey.

“This is a great project which aims to help Shropshire businesses develop workable local solutions to meet their environmental responsibilities and provide benefits for local nature and communities.

“Biodiversity and environmental impact will become increasingly important for businesses, and we expect that in the future companies will need to understand their environmental impacts and put in place policies and practices to reduce them, just as they are now putting in place Net Zero plans.”

The interviews will address the following questions:

  • What are your key current environmental/social objectives?
  • What, if any, concerns do you have about the local environment and its potential impact on your operations?
  • Can working with local landowners to deliver environmental projects in Shropshire help you?
  • Do you do this already?
  • Do you have any concerns/requirements that would need to be met?
