The council says it will help any business in its area install up to four cycle parking stands for free as part of a move to encourage sustainable transport in the borough.

The move comes in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic and whilst public transport capacity is reduced.

A spokesman said: "As you may be aware the government recently announced a package of funding to help keep people walking and cycling during our recovery from the coronavirus crisis.

"Telford & Wrekin Council is investing further in sustainable travel provision. With public transport capacity reduced, promoting and encouraging greener modes of travel such as walking and cycling is now more important than ever.

"We are looking to implement immediate measures to support our businesses within Telford & Wrekin. We appreciate that demand for cycle parking may be greater than ever and in response we are supporting businesses who have identified a need for additional cycle parking by giving each business the opportunity to install up to four cycle parking stands free of charge.

"These will be supplied on the basis that they must be installed within four weeks of being delivered."

Applications need to be submitted online and can be done by going to www.telford.gov.uk/CycleParking
