Drive West Midlands

Drive West Midlands is a sector specific support programme developed with input from industry led by Marketing Birmingham and UK Trade & Investment's Automotive Investment Organisation and regional partners including The Marches LEP, Black Country LEP, Coventry & Warwickshire, Stoke-on-Trent & Staffordshire and Worcestershire. Drive West Midlands.

Launched in June 2015 in Birmingham, the initiative will provide a single point of reference for businesses by coordinating local support services for the automotive sector and collaborating more closely with higher and further education to support skills development.

The aim will be to support the development of SMEs to safeguard the future of the automotive industry. To accelerate the success of the scheme, supporting partners are being brought on board from a range of industries whose work cuts across the automotive industry.

At its core, Drive West Midlands has four main objectives:

1. To develop a robust automotive supply chain in the West Midlands to meet present & future vehicle manufacturer demand

2. To support inward investment into the West Midlands

3.To improve coordinated working between UKTI, the Automotive Investment Organisation, the Automotive Council & 6 West Midlands LEPs

4. To develop in Drive West Midlands a sustainable West Midlands wide operation

By working with industry and government, Drive West Midlands aims to help develop a robust local supply chain, increase local sourcing levels at Tiers 1 and 2 and improve coordinated working across the entire West Midlands area.

Drive West Midlands will ultimately be behind 'meet the buyer' events and trade delegations; introducing smaller firms to potential new customers; creating best practice clubs; and hosting business development workshops on topics such as exports, quality standards, access to finance and recruitment. Drive West Midlands will also promote the region as a destination for international automotive firms at regional and national events.

We're keen to work with organisations and suppliers across the supply chain to drive forward our objectives and to support and strengthen the automotive industry.
