A new grant of up to £10,000 is available for organisations across Telford & Wrekin to help organisations deliver projects to address climate change and environmental sustainability.
The Climate Change fund, offered by Telford & Wrekin Council, is open to a range of applicants to boost green initiatives.
A spokesperson for the council said: “Applications for a wide range of projects will be considered. Examples of projects include, but are not limited to, upgrading of heating systems, boiler replacements, secondary or triple glazing, installing solar panels and battery storage systems, introducing electric bike share schemes, cycle storage, installing a water refill station or improving local recycling of goods.”
Organisations which could bid for funding include schools, nurseries, faith groups, Town and Parish councils, voluntary and community groups, charities, social enterprises, friends of parks, local nature reserves, parent teacher associations, school friend groups and small businesses.
Community organisations can apply for a grant of between £1,500 and £10,000, with the applicant contributing 20% match funding or in kind. Small businesses can apply for a maximum of £10,000, with the applicant expected to match 50% in cash.
The project promises to provide the platform and funding for green initiatives to help the council meet its target to be carbon neutral by 2030.
The council’s first round climate change fund in March saw projects benefitting from the expertise and advice of experts in the field, ensuring that projects had the largest impact possible. The community in Little Wenlock engaged with a consultant for their project and are now proud owners of two heat pumps in the community Village Hall, which saves 4.88 tonnes of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere every year whilst still providing sufficient warm water and air for the building.
Telford & Wrekin is urging any organisation with any green ideas to come forward and apply. Applications must be in by noon on September 9.
